From a Commodified World to Planetary Reason

Looking at the sky has never, throughout human history, been a neutral or plain act. For millennia the ruling classes, feudal lords, and clerics used that endless darkness above our heads to make the masses kneel. Stars were made the thrones of gods, eclipses divine wrath, meteors the omens of kings. Ideology that sought to make the property regime on earth unshakable turned the sky into a metaphysical prison—unreachable, unchangeable, and to be obeyed.

Yet humanity’s struggle of production with nature and the dialectical leap of reason shattered that false dome. The daring of Copernicus, Bruno, and Galileo did not merely tear Earth from the center of the universe; it also scraped the rulers’ mask of "divine order" from the face of the earth.

The unraveling of the sky’s mystery is the history of humanity discovering its own essential power. As the human being turned their gaze to that infinity and grasped the laws of the universe, they understood that they were not a kneeling servant, but a universal subject in which matter had come to consciousness of itself. Taboos fell, gods were pulled from their thrones, and a single plain truth remained: Endless matter, uninterrupted motion, and humanity’s potential to grasp and transform that motion.

From the Perseid meteor showers that light our atmosphere on August nights to that "Pale Blue Dot" at the edge of the universe, everything is a cosmic herald of what we can achieve once we free ourselves from our class shackles on earth.

The Perseid Meteor Shower: From Consumer Romanticism to Material Reality

Late capitalism’s mass culture loves to commodify every event in the sky into a "consumer object" or a "wish-making show." Dialectical materialism, by contrast, requires that we strip facts of the illusions capital offers and take them up in their bare material processes.

What Is the Perseid, and How Does It Form?

Cosmic Source (Material Basis): The Perseid meteor shower is the debris of stone, dust, and ice left in space by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, which completes its elliptical orbit around the Sun roughly once every 133 years.
Orbital Intersection (Dialectical Encounter): While Earth continues its yearly circuit around the Sun, it intersects this vast debris cloud every year between late July and mid-August. The moment of encounter is the dialectical interaction of two distinct material systems.
Physical Transformation (From Kinetic to Light): The particles enter our atmosphere at a colossal speed of about 59 km/s (210,000 km/h). At that speed, the air molecules ahead of the particle compress and overheat. The resulting high temperature and friction both vaporize the meteor and ionize the surrounding air molecules, forming a plasma channel.
The Observed Event: The streak taken for a "shooting star" in the sky is not a falling star; it is a millimetric grain of dust ionizing atmospheric gases and briefly bringing them to incandescence.
The Illusion of the Hero Constellation: That these light trails appear to radiate from the constellation Perseus (Perseus) is only a perspective illusion (the radiant effect); just as train tracks seem to meet in the distance when one advances on a straight road.

While minds narcotized by capital beg the heavens for a "wish," materialist consciousness watches there the change of form of matter, the conversion of kinetic energy into thermal and light energy.

Cosmos and the "Pale Blue Dot": We Are Still Only at the Beginning of Discovery

Our solar system revolves around the gravitational focus at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy at roughly 828,000 km per hour and completes one circuit in 225–250 million years. Human history, on the scale of this "Galactic Year," is still only a few seconds.

The "Pale Blue Dot" perspective that Carl Sagan gave humanity through the viewfinder of the Voyager 1 spacecraft brings out, from a dialectical-materialist standpoint, these two great truths:

The Perfection of Matter: Humanity is a level of organization that emerged from billions of years of the dialectical evolution of blind material processes in the universe. It is nature’s organ that can think, grasp, and transform itself.

Capital’s Primitive Narrow-Mindedness: All the wars, plunder, and exploitation lived on that blue speck no larger than a mote of dust prove how primitive, how barbaric, the bourgeoisie’s lust for profit and for property is.

In this age when, with the James Webb Telescope, we touch the first lights of the universe, we are a species only beginning to understand the sky. Yet the greatest contradiction is here: While our minds wander in intergalactic space, our social relations are still held at the level of capital’s primitive clan of barbarism.

While the bourgeoisie dreams of space mining, capital owners such as Elon Musk pollute the sky with hundreds of Starlink satellites and obstruct astronomical observation; they turn space into a playground for the rich and a new battlefield for imperialist powers.

The Line of Civilizational Development: Where Does Contemporary Humanity Stand?

We can examine humanity’s capacity to grasp nature, transform energy, and master the means of production within a dialectical-materialist frame in four great stages:

Stage 3: Planetary Reason and Collective Power	Fusion, smart solar/wind grids, full automation.	Communism (a classless, stateless, exploitation-free order).	The age of planetary planned production in which the market economy has been abolished and the metabolic rift between nature and humanity overcome.
Stage 4: Cosmic Integration	Interstellar energy use and production networks.	The cosmic existence of the association of free producers.	The stage in which humanity fully overcomes alienation and becomes the active and conscious organizer of the universe.

Concrete Situation Analysis: We Stand at the Rotting Limit of Stage 2

The capitalist order has struck its historical limits. The material infrastructure (the productive forces) is ready to carry humanity to the next stage (Stage 3: Planetary Reason and Collective Classless Order), yet property relations pull this potential down like a shackle.

There are four fundamental dialectical contradictions that bring this decay and these limits to light:

The Violent Conflict Between the Productive Forces and the Relations of Production

The Potential Brought to Light: Artificial intelligence, automation, data processing, and nuclear-fusion technologies are at a level that could reduce humanity’s compulsory labor time to 2–3 hours a day, end drudgery, and abolish scarcity entirely.
Capital’s Primitive Intervention: Under the regime of private property these technologies become not "instruments of liberation," but weapons of "increasing surplus-value exploitation and devaluing the human being." Instead of giving people free time, automation drives millions into unemployment and precarity (the precariat) and subjects those who work to denser exploitation under digital surveillance.
Dialectical Result: As technological development increases, human happiness and freedom do not increase; on the contrary, human alienation and the sense of a futureless life deepen.

Metabolic Rift and Unsustainable Ecological Crisis

The Commodification of Nature: The concept Karl Marx defined as the "metabolic rift" has today reached its peak. Capitalism sees nature as an unlimited raw-material depot and the free dumping ground of capital accumulation.
The Illusion of "Green Capitalism": The bourgeoisie has turned the ecological destruction it produces into new markets and marketing strategies under the names of "carbon footprint," "sustainability," and "green energy investments." Yet for a system based on the profit drive and the compulsion of endless growth to live in harmony with nature is logically and physically impossible.
Dialectical Result: The system, by destroying at once the two main sources of wealth on which it rises (the human being and nature), collides with its own existential limit.

The Degeneration of Science, Art, and Ideology

Marketized Science: Contemporary science has been instrumentalized not for humanity’s common welfare, but to obtain patent rights, feed the military-industrial complex, and protect the profit margins of giant corporations. Basic scientific research has given way to market-oriented projects that bring instant profit.
Commodified and Dysfunctional Art: The modern art world has become a money-laundering mechanism for the bourgeoisie and a deep apparatus of illusion. Even art that appears oppositional or critical is rapidly absorbed by the system, packaged, and put on the market as a consumer object (the fetishism of the commodity).
Cultural Decay and Irrationalism: That the masses are pushed toward astrology, religious mysticism, conspiracy theories, and digital narcotics while humanity lives its most technically advanced age is no accident. The loss of depth in music, literature, and cinema is an ideological hegemony built to keep the masses from understanding real dialectical contradictions.

Digital Techno-Feudalism and Pacified Masses

Platform Property and Rent: Digitization has not created a public sphere; on the contrary, it has created digital estates in which technology giants behave like feudal lords. Our data is seized; our mental labor and our attention are turned into capital.
Algorithmic Ghettoization: Social-media algorithms are designed to prevent the masses from uniting in a common class consciousness. People are locked into tiny digital ghettos (echo chambers) and set against one another, so that the real class enemy (capital) is made invisible.

A Comparison of Bourgeois Illusion and Dialectical-Materialist Reality

Let us compare the Stage 2 decay process we inhabit through capital’s discourses in the modern world and through bare reality:

The Historical Fork in the Road – Either Barbarism or Collective Emancipation

The Perseid meteor shower we observe, the James Webb data arriving from the depths of space, or the dizzying speed artificial intelligence has reached… All of these show us the boundless potential of the human mind and of nature.

Yet as a philosopher and a revolutionary we must accept that the idea that technology or science will save humanity on its own is the greatest bourgeois illusion.

Historical materialism teaches us plainly: No stage of civilization (as in the passage from Stage 1 to Stage 2) has collapsed on its own merely because technique advanced, nor has it passed spontaneously to the next stage.

Humanity today stands exactly at this historical fork in the road:

Either within the rotting limits of Stage 2 we will perish in an age of barbarism ruined by climate crises, authoritarianized, bound by digital chains, with labor wholly devalued, and broken in imperialist wars of partition…

Or by liquidating the regime of private property over the means of production, we will make a class leap to Stage 3 (a classless, exploitation-free, planetary collective order) in which we plan production not for profit, but for the common need of society and nature.

The Necessity of Building the Future

We must immediately strip ourselves of the false conscience-soothing social media creates, of aestheticized keyboard opposition, and of passive reactivity within the system.

To understand the universe, to unravel the mystery of the sky, is possible only by liberating the earth. So long as the human species does not defeat the capital and property monster it itself created, it will get no further than being a captive looking at the sky.

Our task is to tear science, art, and technology from the monopoly of capital; to pull the masses out of digital ghettos and reorganize them inside material life (in workplaces, neighborhoods, and streets); and to be not spectators of history, but its transforming subjects.

The sky awaits us; yet the key lies in the struggle for a classless society on earth.
