Dear comrades, young fellow fighters, IT and science laborers,

In this dark age when neoliberalism commercializes the universities and seeks to tame thought with corporate funds, we gather once again at the Karaburun Science Congress—that living oasis of free, independent, and disobedient science.

As a researcher who, on one hand, examines the code of artificial neural networks, optimization functions, and vast data architectures; and on the other, as a labor militant striving to decipher the class upheavals and waves of algorithmic dispossession produced by these productive forces, I am proud to announce that I will take the podium at the 20th Karaburun Science Congress, to be held on September 3 – 5, 2026, with my presentation titled "The Revolt of Crystallized Labor: The Expropriation of the General Intellect in AI Models, Mental Taylorism, and the Digital Panopticon."

A Call to Young Comrades: Let Us Meet in Karaburun!

I especially call upon my young comrades, the programmers who write the code of the future, my student friends who resist market-oriented academia in the lecture halls, the IT workers under the precarious pressure of office towers and technoparks, and all subjects of resistance who come from the workshops and the streets—to this windswept Aegean shore.

On these lands where Börklüce Mustafa's commoning heritage has flourished, let us together scatter the rulers' fairy tales of "technological neutrality" and "labor-free artificial intelligence." Let us set aside the illusions of titles and discuss together the programmer's alienation from code, the enclosure of our lives by algorithmic supervision, and the common front of the precaritized millions.

In the presentation we will deliver in Karaburun, we will pass the political economy of artificial intelligence through a dialectical-materialist filter and place the following fundamental axes under detailed scrutiny:

The Expropriation of the General Intellect and Digital Enclosure: We will demonstrate that artificial intelligence is not a labor-free "technological miracle," but the frozen and crystallized form, within machines, of the General Intellect (social collective intelligence) that Karl Marx defined in the Grundrisse. The Expropriation of the General Intellect and Digital Enclosure

Epistemological Rupture: From the Expropriation of Muscle Labor to the Invasion of the "General Intellect"

Artificial intelligence and Large Language Models (LLMs) are neither a labor-free "technological miracle," as technocratic discourses claim, nor a simple instrument of "automation." The phenomenon before us expresses a qualitative rupture from the mechanization practices of the classical industrial revolution.

Industrial Capitalism and Muscle Power: Classical capitalism objectified the worker's bodily and motor capacities (muscle power, manual skill), transformed them into a machine component, and absorbed them into its own body in the form of constant capital ($c$).
Cyber Capitalism and Cognitive Capacities: In the age of artificial intelligence, capital tears from the social body the cognitive capacities, linguistic codes, and intuitive decision-making and analytical capacities that humanity has historically and socially produced.

The General Intellect (social collective mind) that Karl Marx brilliantly foresaw in the "Fragment on Machines" in the Grundrisse is the becoming of science and social knowledge as the direct principal productive force. Artificial intelligence is the ultimate form in which humanity's shared mental heritage is frozen and objectified in vast data centers—transformed into dead labor.

The Epistemological Subject–Object Contradiction: Humanity's common mind is objectified in the monopolies' server farms and then sold back to that same humanity for money as a "subscription service" (SaaS) or an API gateway. Capital erects the collective intelligence we ourselves have produced against us as an alien and oppressive authority (constant capital).

Cognitive Primitive Accumulation and the Cyber Enclosure of the Commons (Digital Enclosure)

Just as the bourgeoisie in sixteenth- and eighteenth-century England enclosed and dispossessed the lands held in common by peasants through the "Enclosure Acts," today's cyber monopolies are carrying out a similar process of Cognitive Primitive Accumulation (Primitive Data Accumulation).

The open-source codes accumulated on internet networks (GitHub), encyclopedic accumulations (Wikipedia), forum discussions, scanned academic documents, and artistic productions—that is, the social knowledge commons (information commons)—have been absorbed and plundered for free. AI monopolies enclose this collective accumulation behind copyright and patent walls, commodifying use-value and sacrificing it to exchange-value.

Cyber-Colonialism: The Click Labor of the Global South and Epistemic Plunder

The imperialist value chain has established a deepening cyber-colonial hierarchy alongside the production of artificial intelligence:

The Cyber Metropole (Center): The US- and China-centered monopolies that hold the intellectual property of artificial intelligence, advanced chip architectures (Nvidia and the like), high compute capacity, and parameter sovereignty.
The Cyber Periphery (Periphery): The invisible modern "click slaves" (data labelers) in Kenya, the Philippines, and India who, for one or two dollars a day, cleanse the internet's most traumatic and darkest data so that Silicon Valley can produce its "smooth and sterile" models.

The exploitation of labor is no longer confined to the physical plunder of lithium and cobalt mines. The living click labor and social data pools of the Global South are subjected to epistemic plunder by the cyber centers. The data of the world's peoples is absorbed, processed, and then turned back upon them as an instrument of algorithmic domination.

From Rentier Capitalism to Cyber Feudalism: The Age of Digital Lordships

Monopoly cyber capitalism is liquidating the classical free-competition logic of the market and evolving into a structure that harbors rentier and feudal elements:

Digital Seigneurs: Because training and running large language models requires enormous energy, chip, and server infrastructure, the means of production have been absolutely monopolized in the hands of a handful of digital lords (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta).
The Regime of Algorithmic Rent: These structures no longer merely sell products; by rendering entire societies, enterprises, and even peripheral nation-states dependent on their cloud infrastructures, they extract digital ground rent. Should the monopolies flip the switch, the paralysis of the logistics, finance, and IT infrastructures of peripheral countries would be no great feat.

The debate on artificial intelligence cannot be confined to a parenthesis of technological "progress." This process is a social and philosophical struggle over dispossession, in which humanity's capacity to know, understand, and produce is torn from its hands and transformed into an apparatus of capital's domination.

Mental Taylorism and Cognitive Deskilling: Mental Labor on the Digital Assembly Line

In this principal axis of our presentation, we place under scrutiny capital's strategies of domination over cognitive labor and the arrangement of mental labor along an assembly line akin to industrial production.

Just as classical industrial capitalism, in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, fragmented manual labor through Frederick Winslow Taylor's principles of "Scientific Management," so twenty-first-century cyber-capitalism fragments mental labor by the same methodology through Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and the like), and algorithms.

Historical Continuity from Classical Taylorism to Mental Taylorism

In the period of the Industrial Revolution, Taylorism stripped from the worker the craft knowledge in their hands—the holistic mastery of production filtered through the master–apprentice relation—by means of stopwatches and assembly lines. The aim was this: to bring the labor process under the control of the boss/manager, to break work down into its smallest units, and to transform the worker into a replaceable appendage of the machine.

Today, "Mental Taylorism" is precisely the application of this logic to mental production processes. The holistic craft capacity (heuristics) in the mind of a programmer, a graphic designer, an engineer, or a translator is torn from the worker's hands through the training of AI models, converted into constant capital ($c$), and then turned back upon living labor ($v$) as an instrument of domination.

Cognitive Deskilling and the Loss of Craft

Laborers working in the IT and design sectors were long regarded as "privileged intellectual producers" or as a "labor aristocracy." A software architect or a senior designer possessed the holistic knowledge of production—from the definition of the problem to the construction of the solution.

With the entry of AI models into the production process, this holistic craft capacity undergoes a three-stage erosion:

Task Fragmentation: Complex projects are broken into micro-tasks by AI algorithms. What is expected of the human laborer is no longer to build an architecture, but to approve the ready-made code or design fragments placed before them.
Standardization and Templatization: AI models produce "average and optimized" outputs from the billions of data points they scrape from the internet. Workers, forced to conform to this average, lose their original and critical design capacities.
Cognitive Dependence and Atrophy: The mind that continually supervises algorithm outputs gradually loses its capacities for solving problems from scratch, debugging, and abstraction. The cognitive muscles wither.

The Economic and Class Consequences of Deskilling

This technical transformation serves three fundamental economic aims from the standpoint of capital:

Depreciating the Value of Labor-Power: When work requiring holistic expertise is reduced to micro-tasks and placed under AI supervision, the cost of training and reproducing the labor-power that will perform that work falls. Highly paid senior programmers are replaced by "prompt operators" working slightly above the minimum wage.
Creating a Reserve Army of Cognitive Labor: The facilitation of work through AI tools lowers barriers to entry into the sector. This creates a vast mass army of the unemployed (reserve industrial army) in the technology sector, intensifying wage pressure and flexibility upon those who remain employed.
Meaninglessness and Alienation: The IT laborer who loses control over the totality of the product becomes alienated from the code, the design, and the text they themselves produce. This process, presented under the name of productivity growth, generates in the laborer a heavy "crisis of meaninglessness" and mental exhaustion.

Dialectical Assessment: Capital Shooting Itself in the Foot

Dialectical materialism shows us that the more capital fragments and deskills mental labor in order to absolutize its control, the more it dynamites the very ground on which it itself rests.

The Crisis of the Law of Value: The sole source of value is living human labor ($v$). The more capital drives living labor out of the process through artificial intelligence and automates everything, the more it narrows the quantity of surplus-value distilled from living labor and triggers the law of the tendency of the rate of profit to fall ($LTRPF$) in the cyber domain.
The Birth of the Collective Proletarian Substance: Yesterday's white-collar IT worker who "felt special" is, as they are deskilled, stripped of the illusions of titles. The programmer in the office tower and the courier in the warehouse or the textile worker in the factory are objectively united on the common ground of algorithmic supervision and precarity.

Mental Taylorism is capital's quest for absolute domination; yet the cognitive proletariat it produces is the sole force that possesses the technical capacity and the strategic position to paralyze this network of domination!

The Digital Panopticon and Algorithmic Domination: The Boundaries of the "Cognitive Panopticon"

In this session of the Karaburun Science Congress, we focus on the cyber domain in which capital reproduces its domination over living labor in its most refined, most invisible, yet most brutal form. The Panopticon, designed by Jeremy Bentham and inscribed into philosophy by Michel Foucault as the emblem of modern disciplinary society, was nothing more than an architectural prison tower. Whether the guard in that tower was present or absent could not be known; the prisoner disciplined themselves through the terror produced by the possibility of being watched.

In the digital age we inhabit, capital has digitized this architectural structure and made it overflow the walls of particular workplaces. The phenomenon before us is no longer merely a device that supervises the physical body; it is a vast "Cognitive Panopticon" that datafies and dispossesses the cognitive capacity of living labor, its intuitive decision-making processes (heuristics), its attention, and even its emotional state.

The Lie of Flexible Work: The Colonization of Time and Life

The flexible and remote-work models that the bourgeoisie presents packaged as "freedom," "being your own boss," and "location-independent work" are, as dialectical examination reveals, the technological cover for the absolute extension of the working day.

The disappearance of the factory chimney and the shift whistle does not mean that exploitation has ended; it shows that the boundaries of the workplace have spread across all of life.

The Melting of Spatial Boundaries: Homes, cafés, public spaces, and even moments of rest have been transformed, through digital infrastructures (VPN, Slack, MS Teams, WhatsApp), into so many "digital factories" in which capital produces surplus-value without interruption.
The Overflow of Time (the 24/7 Working Regime): "Flexibility" is not the laborer's management of their own time; it is capital's ability to seize the laborer's time "just-in-time" around the clock. The concept of working hours has passed into history, giving way to an uninterrupted state of "readiness for command," fragmented by notifications.
Biopolitical Datafication: Every moment of life (screen time, speed of response to notifications, smartwatches measuring sleep patterns) is datafied and graded according to its capacity to produce surplus-value.

Regimes of Cyber Supervision and the Cognitive Assembly Line

In the past, industrial capitalism divided the movements of manual labor into seconds with stopwatches (Taylorism). Today's cognitive capitalism has lined up all mental laborers—from software developers to designers, from academics to physicians—along the "Cognitive Assembly Line."

Through project-management tools and micro-surveillance software, capital continually measures, fragments, and devalues labor.

The ADAPT software that measures, by means of the smart glove in the Amazon warehouse worker's hand, how many seconds it takes to reach a shelf, and the metrics that measure a programmer's code-completion speed on Jira, are products of the same logic: to forcibly adapt the human rhythm of living labor to the algorithmic speed of constant capital (the machine).

From the Classical Panopticon to the Cognitive Panopticon

The most dangerous aspect of the Cognitive Panopticon is that the apparatus of supervision is made up to look like a technical necessity and thereby neutralized. The cold and objective algorithms that replace the hierarchy of supervisors present exploitation as a "law of nature."

The tableau before us is the erection, by capital, of humanity's historical social intelligence (in Marx's expression, the General Intellect) as an "Epistemic Guard" over the head of living labor. The algorithm has been fed by the decisions of past workers, the words of writers, and the codes of programmers; it has become "frozen social labor." Now this frozen labor is deployed in the field to manage and degrade living labor.

Dialectical Antagonism: Seizing the Algorithmic Protocols

Yet dialectical materialism teaches us that the quest for absolute rationalization and control carries within its own breast the most radical fragility as well. As capital connects production across the globe with fiber-optic cables and breaks it into second-by-second tasks, it unwittingly constructs, on a global scale, a single productive nervous system.

Bending into Its Own Opposite: Over-centralized and digitized networks of supervision also singularize the points of rupture. A break or a stoppage at a single node of this worldwide cognitive assembly line has the potential to paralyze the entire algorithmic network.
Sabotage and Gaming the System: Workers do not wholly accept algorithmic supervision. Couriers' collective manipulation of location algorithms, programmers' development of counter-codes that blind performance-tracking bots, call-center workers' disruption of system metrics—these are the first sparks of the latent revolt in the digital class.
The Leninist Cyber-Post-Office Strategy: Our task is not simply to destroy these technologies or to flee into the analog world. We update Lenin's principle of "seizing the post office, the telegraph office, the bridges" in the revolution: to reach for the switch is to seize, in the name of the class, the algorithmic protocols behind these systems, the data infrastructure, the sovereignty of code, and managerial decisions.

The force that will break this cyber-despotism, which capital objectifies by saying "the algorithm so commands," is the grasping of its own collective power by the "Total Worker" (Gesamtarbeiter)—from those who assemble the hardware to those who label the data, from those who write the code to the couriers who provide the logistics.

Data Unionism and the Horizon of Homo Commonans

Against Cyber-Fascist Techno-Feudalism: The Future Manifesto of the Class That Seizes Its Own Creation

Artificial intelligence is not a transcendent "technological miracle" descended from the heavens, as capital's ideological tricks present it; it is the form of frozen / crystallized social labor, in server farms, of the collective knowledge produced throughout history by millions of workers, writers, programmers, and artists—that is, of the General Intellect conceptualized by Karl Marx. The tableau we confront today is the seizure of this vast social heritage by Silicon Valley monopolies through the methods of "cognitive primitive accumulation" and "digital enclosure."

Capital deploys this frozen labor, distilled from the historical accumulation of living labor, as a weapon with which to deskill mental labor through Mental Taylorism and to dissolve the boundaries of the workplace, converting social life into a Digital Panopticon. Yet dialectical materialism teaches us that every technical infrastructure the ruling class builds in order to deepen exploitation also grows, in its own breast, its opposite and its own gravedigger. Against the dystopia of a cyber-fascist techno-feudalism, the sole historical line of exit is the will of that hidden, collective, and global power that produces artificial intelligence—namely the global Total Worker—to seize its own creation.

Techno-Feudalist Dystopia vs. the Horizon of Homo Commonans

We can read the qualitative cleavage between capital's cyber-despotic future and the working class's commoning horizon of emancipation along the following dialectical line:

Data Unionism: The Cyber-Political Instruments of Class Struggle

Capital conceals relations of exploitation behind algorithms, big-data ontologies, and artificial neural networks, making them up to look like a technical necessity. Against this algorithmic magic, the molds of traditional unionism prove inadequate. The working class must step out of a defensive line and arm itself with the instruments of "Data Unionism," which directly target control of the means of production and of data.

The concrete instruments of struggle of Data Unionism take shape through three fundamental apparatuses:

1. Civil Data Commons and Data Cooperatives

The ride, code, content, and interaction data that capital seizes for free through digital platforms belong to the laborers.
Couriers, programmers, and digital workers must refuse to transfer the data they themselves produce to monopolistic platforms, and must unite it in the infrastructures of "Data Cooperatives" and "Civil Data Commons." Against the exploitation algorithms of the companies, the workers' own autonomous planning, distribution, and organization software must be built.

2. Algorithmic Accountability and "Cognitive Conscientious Objection"

The black-box character of the algorithms that companies use in hiring, performance tracking, and dismissals must be rejected; Algorithmic Accountability must be made a clause of collective bargaining agreements.
Among progressive IT laborers who write code for the military genocide software of empires (Lavender, Gospel, and the like) or for surveillance systems that blacklist the working class, a mass epistemology of "Cognitive Conscientious Objection" and cyber sabotage must be organized.

3. Transforming the Direct Productivity Gains of Artificial Intelligence into "Free Time"

The immense productivity growth created by artificial intelligence must be transformed into a banner of struggle—not to swell the bosses' profit columns or to throw workers onto the street, but to radically reduce weekly working hours (the 4-hour workday).

The Practice of Commoning and the Emancipation Line of Homo Commonans

The commons are not merely a static resource or a community of property outside private/public ownership. Commoning is a form of social relating—solidaristic, egalitarian, and self-managing—that stands outside the logic of market exchange and profit. As Arturo Escobar has noted, the commons constitute, on a global scale, the principled ground of a new "transition discourse" and of a "common good life" (buen vivir).

The Homo Economicus that capitalism imposes upon us is the human being who is competitive, who acts with greed for property, and who is alienated from their own species-essence. The subject who rises against this decay is Homo Commonans (the Commoning Human):

If we carry Lenin's "Postal Organization" metaphor of 1917 into the cyber space of the twenty-first century: servers, fiber-optic cables, and AI architectures are a vast infrastructure. The switch is not in some imaginary "cloud" in the sky; it is in the water that cools those servers, in the chip mines, and in the living labor at the keyboard.

When the working class that seizes its own creation reaches for that cyber switch, the capitalist shell of property over frozen labor will crack, and technology will enable humanity's leap from the realm of necessity into the realm of freedom.

The Front of Public Cyber Infrastructure and the Commons: By piercing the barricades of intellectual property, independent, open-source AI libraries that protect humanity's common memory, and a Front of Digital Commons, must be built.
Red Cybernetic Planning: Artificial intelligence must be stripped of its role as an apparatus of corporate speculation or exploitation and placed at the command of cyber-councils that plan the just distribution of resources, the restoration of ecological balance, and society's real needs.

We are not analog machine-breaking Luddites who smash turnstiles; we are the Promethean subjects who will shatter the shell of property over those machines, servers, and codes.
